The Pearl of the Dolomite Lakes

No trip to the Dolomites is complete without a stop at Lago di Braies. The famouse blue mountain lake in Dolomites, also called Pragser Wildsee Lake. We have seen a lot of mountain lakes during our travels in the mountains, but this one is pretty spectacular! Lago Di Braies is an alpine lake and a part of UNESCO World Heritage. The reflection of the mountains on the water make this place so special, the lake is absolute incredible.

The most iconic photography spot in Dolomites

If you're into photography, the Dolomites is the place to go.  For a good reason it has become a popular Instagram photography spot and Lago Di Braies is probaly the most famous spot and people come for the photo. It is not just a photo spot, luckily there is so much more to do when visiting Lake Braies than taking that perfect shot. When we left the the boat house and followed the hike trail around the lake the atmosphere changes completely. It was such a beautiful and quiet morning hike around the lake and some of the best views at Lago Di Braies was looking back towards the hotel and boat house from the end og the lake.

Visit Lago Di Braies

It’s not a secret that Lago di Braies is the most touristy lake of the Dolomites. You do need to get up very early to escape the crowds. Best would be to visit the lake in begin June or September and October and enjoy the lake while the weather is still nice warm. We would never recommend anyone to go in high season. We visit Lago Di Braies in October and arrived early in the morning and left again around 11 and at that time the lake was getting crowded.

Autumn is a really nice time to visit the Dolomites if you are seeking cool weather and few other tourists
Autumn is also the time when the larch trees turn yellow and orange
