The most unique rock formation we ever have seen
Road-trip to Tre Cime Di Lavaredo in our camper
Tre Cime Di Lavaredo UNESCO World Heritage is placed in the Sexten Dolomites of North Eastern Italy
Highlight of our road trip in The Dolomites was the hike aorund Tre Cime Di Lavaredo - Drei Zinnen Dolomites. We did not have much expectation before the hike as this was our first time travelling in The Dolomites. Off-course we had seen all the amazing and stunning photos before we arrived but no photos can do justice to how spectacular these peaks are in real life. This is for sure a must visit for anyone who travel around in the Dolomites. We chose to visit The Dolomites in October because the crowds are gone, the weather is lovely and the hiking temperature is still warm and nice. The best part is the insane colors. During fall season this part of the region turns all shades of orange and yellow thanks to the thousands of larch trees.
Rifugio Lavaredo

Rifugio Lavaredo
The hike takes you to Rifugio Lavaredo. The hike to the hut is the easiest part of the trail. The hut offers oversigt accomodation and great for at stopover.
The hike starts from the parking lot next to Rifugio Auronzo and takes you to a small mountain chapel before you arrive to Rifugio Lavaredo. All the way you have a huge panoramic views of jagged mountains and the trail is easy to walk. From the hut Rifugio Lavaredo we toke a steep pitched rocky trail up to the view point Forcella Lavaredo. You can also walk the dirt road which is easier to walk and both lead to the viewpoint. We made a stop when we arrived up to the viewpoint where we had a wonderful view of Tre Cime.

Behind the Three peaks
Hike around The Three Peaks is stunning from all sides
The hike around Tre Cime is approx 10 kilometer ( 6 miles ) and takes about 4 hours to walk. We did a lot of stops and breaks and we spend around 6 hours before we came back to our camper. We walked the trail clockwise and for the most part we followed the paths 101 and 105. The hike is rated easy but we think some of the part is bit of a work. We hiked with our 2 and half year old dog and he did so well. The trail is mostly wide, with loose rocks and some part are step which can make it a bit tricky. The last part of the trail is the hardest. If you have any problem walking we would recommend to walk to Rifugio Lavaredo and follow the easy trail up to the first viewpoint and then walk back the same way.
Rifugio Locatelli / Dreizinnen Hut
Rifugio Locatelli / Dreizinnen Hütte
From the viewpoint you can already spot Rifugio Locatelli. You continue following part 101 to the hut. Look at this view, it´s dramatic and beautiful.
When you get to the hut Rifugio Locatelli you can enjoy the unique view of the Three peaks. We would highly recommend to spend a night here and enjoy the sunset and sunrise in front of the peaks. Book overnight stay at Rigugio Locatelli

Get to the parking lod next to Rifugio auronzo
Drive up to the parking via Strada Panoramica Delle Tre Cime. It is 7 km long before you enter the top.
The road up to the parking lot is a toll road and we paid for our camper 45 EUR for 24 hours. Car is 30 EUR. How to get there

Overnight at Tre Cime Di Lavaredo
Overnight at the parking lod
We were surprised when we realized that we could spend a night on the top. In the bottom you need to pay for the told road which is around 30 EUR for car and 45 EUR for camper, you pay for 24 hours . If you arrive after 7 pm, then you can spend the night without paying for an extra day. We would highly recommend all campers to spend the night at parking lod and then wake up early the next day and start the hike before anyone els arrive. The parking is just next to Rifugio Auronzo but you will not find facilities during the night, you need to be self-sufficient. If you do not wont to overnight at the top you can park in the bottom where you find facilities. We visit The Dolomites in October and there were no crowd anywhere but we guess the parking lod look very diffrent in high season.
