Zugspitze, Eibsee

Exploring the Bavarian Alps

Zugspitze is one of those places I find myself returning to again and again. It’s a destination that’s truly worth visiting all year round. For years, we drove through this region without ever really stopping to explore it, but over the past couple of years, it has become one of my favorite places to pause, slow down, and truly take it all in.

At Lake Eibsee, you’ll find crystal-clear, emerald-green water surrounded by dramatic mountain scenery. Sitting right at the foot of Zugspitze, the lake offers breathtaking views in every direction.

Whether you’re walking along the shoreline, finding a quiet spot to sit, or simply watching the mountains reflect in the still water, it’s a place that feels both peaceful and unforgettable, an ideal spot to slow down and stay for a while.

Top of Germany.

Zugspitze is known as Germany’s highest mountain and a true symbol of the majestic beauty of the Alps. It attracts adventure seekers and outdoor enthusiasts all year-round and is especially popular for winter activities.

Located on the border between Germany and Austria, Zugspitze reaches an elevation of 2,962 meters. From the summit, you’re rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views across the Alps.

On a clear day, it’s said that you can see more than 400 peaks, stretching across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, a view that truly lives up to the name “Top of Germany.”

From the valley to the summit, there are several ways to reach the top. If you’re planning your visit, it’s worth checking Top of Germany for more information on how to get there.

5 star camping

At the foot of Zugspitze, you’ll find several great places to stay. One of them is a 5-star campsite, where we’ve stayed ourselves and had a really good experience.

The campsite is located on the Austrian border and is part of the Zugspitz Resort. It’s a 5-star campsite set directly at the foot of Zugspitze, offering an incredible location surrounded by mountains, Zugspitze resort. The campsite is located directly at the foot of the Zugspitze with lift system .
We’ve also stayed at a stellplatz in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, which is another convenient option when visiting the area.

Around Lake Eibsee

From the campsite, there are plenty of beautiful trails for both hiking and biking, making it easy to explore the surrounding area and really experience the landscape up close. It’s also easy to reach Garmisch-Partenkirchen from here, a very idyllic town surrounded by stunning Alpine scenery.

Hi, I’m Cathrine Korsgaard Yde.

I’m a professional sports and action photographer who loves movement and capturing dynamic moments. I also value quiet time to recharge and let my mind wander in nature.

I often explore nature from our van during the off-season, away from the crowds and noise. That balance between action and stillness is where I find my inspiration.
