Why I chose extra locks for my camper van.

Traveling alone through the Alps has been one of the most empowering experiences of my life. Waking up surrounded by mountains, choosing my own route, moving at my own pace, it’s pure freedom.

During my recent trips through the Alps, I decided to invest in additional security for my camper van. I chose locks from a Danish company, a brand specializing in security solutions designed specifically for commercial vehicles, campers and vans. They even came to our location and installed the lockers. You can find other systems designed specifically for motorhomes, but this solution suits me best and also has a nice and clean design.

Honestly, It has made a huge difference for me when I travel alone.

LOCKED FROM INSIDE AND OUTSIDE

I clearly communicate that the van is secured with these extra locks. Once the locks are activated, the doors cannot be opened from the inside or outside without the key.

To make this clear to anyone approaching the vehicle, I also placed warning stickers on the outside of the van. The stickers inform people that the camper van is equipped with extra security locks and that the doors cannot be opened. In other words: don’t even try !!

Sleeping alone, and truly feeling safe

Before installing the extra locks, I was always a little more alert at night when traveling alone. Every unfamiliar sound outside would make me pause.
Now, with the additional exterior locks secured, I feel safe inside my van. Knowing that the doors can not be opened, gives me real peace of mind. I can relax and I can sleep deeply.

I had the same lockers in my old camper and just knew it was the right thing to get them installed again.

Dog life ….
Another important reason for upgrading my locks is my dog. When I step out of the camper, whether for groceries, a quick hike, or a coffee stop, he stays inside.
I need to know he is safe.

Therefor every time I leave the van, I lock the additional exterior locks. It’s part of my routine now. Knowing that my dog is protected while I’m away gives me the confidence to enjoy my time outside without constant worry.

A Small Upgrade, A Big Difference

Investing in extra locks might not sound exciting compared to solar panels or new gear. But for me, it has been one of the most valuable upgrades I’ve made to my camper.
Traveling alone has taught me many things, and one of them is this Freedom feels best when you feel safe.
